Any organization has a commitment in keeping a certain image that has the public appealed to them and this image is dependent on the organizations goals, strategies and its mission to the public. Public Relations in an organization serve as a middle man between the mass public and the organization. PR also has the duty to inform the public regarding events or specific information the organization wants the public to know. Another job of the PR department is dealing with the media when it comes to certain details regarding a product. Media relations are part of the many different aspects of the PR process. The mass media is used to influence the public and is a large part of corporate America. This is used to help the public understand the organizations and the products that they have to offer.

A plan is needed in order for the advertising and promotions results to come out effectively. Normally a plan consists of a breakdown of the message that should be sent out to the public, a breakdown of who is responsible for the piece of the campaign and then the outline of the cost compared to the budget that can be used for this campaign. The media then uses magazines, newspapers, radio and television in order to get that word out. An organization generally does not have much control when it comes to the message in the media when it comes to advertising. The opinions are left to be expressed in the hands of the writers and reporters.

For example, the University of Phoenix would like to sponsor a walk for cancer, this helping to raise money for a certain cancer charity. Knowing that the University will make this even known Nationwide, the Hotel and airline industry will have a major piece in this event. This is done so a competitive advantage can be completed so that not only individuals can get a deal but so can groups when it comes to rates.
