What are the stages of KM Implementation?

The stages of KM Implementation is

1. Stage 1- Get Started

2. Stage 2- Develop Strategy

3. Stage 3- Design and Launch KM Initiatives

4. Stage 4- Expand and Support

5. Stage 5- Institutionalize KM

Write a short note on the present state of early KM Adopters.

There are three KM adopters which are Chevron, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and Schlumberger. Chevron target was to reduce operating costs and expand the growth of their company, with the use of communities of Practice, facilitating transfer of best practices and the use of Microsoft Platform and Plumtree Portal they have resulted in a $2 billion reduction on annual operating costs.

Cap Gemini Ernst & Young target is faster revenue growth and lower costs, their approach is COPs, central KM managers, and content management with the use of Microsoft Platform and Exchange and they have resulted in 10-fold growth in revenue with 5-fold increase in employees.

Schlumberger target is knowledge in the hands of employees and customers, their approach is technical COPs, intranet & vortal. The used the Web Enabled technology, which has resulted in $75 Million 1st year savings; $100Milion customer savings.

Explain how KM approaches are more mature in 21st century.

KM approaches are more mature due to their technology enablement and tacit. Their self-services have evolved to COPs which has evolved to transfer of best practices.

Tacit knowledge is personal, context-specific and therefore hard to formalize and communicate. Explicit or codified knowledge is transmittable in formal, systematic language.
