Patton-Fuller Community Hospital (PFCH) is a 600-bed full-service hospital. As with various community hospital's around the country, PFCH is confronted with rising healthcare costs but at the same time, PFCH has to maintain quality health care. Given the seriousness of the latest recession, investment dollars have been "slow" to coming into the organization. Thus, it is imperative to reconsider certain business models that PFCH currently employs and consider revamping them so they today's economic climate.

As proposed by the Facilities Department, any a current remodels such as the Emergency Room Remodel will include the use of environmentally friendly. Additionally, all e- mails are stamped with “Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail.” This is an important place to start in the justification for the implementation of a Hospital ERP system and the decrease in paperwork. Facility Policies and Procedures outlines a manual equipment tracking of asset inventory, including risk assessment of equipment use, employee training on use, equipment maintenance protocols, and regulatory compliance. Currently each hospital department is responsible for the costs of equipment procurement, training, and maintenance of all electrical and mechanical equipment within its scope of control.

The Chief Compliance Officer, Fredrick Adair, is concerned with Data Privacy issues that require hospitals to keep all personal health information (PHI) private. Access of patient data should only be the minimum necessary patient record information by those who need to provide clinical care, insurers for the purpose of paying claims, and business associates as required by contracts. Thus, partnership collaboration with insurance companies and other any other external business associates are needed to access data with the proper security controls.
