Parenting Styles and Development Checkpoint

I have chosen to talk about puberty because this is a very trying time for both parents and adolescents. At this stage adolescents start to express their need to be independent and they begin to experiment with their social behaviors and some parents do approve of this.

Parents expect their children to behave in a certain manner and carry themselves in a certain way. If the adolescents were to disobey their rules then they would be punished for breaking their rules by parents that are authoritative. Authoritative parents explain why they are being punished and the adolescents know that they are doing this so that they learn a lesion not just because they want to punish them. I see some parents as laid back but at the same time they are strict when it is needed. I feel that when the rules are laid out for the adolescents then this can reduce the want to do something they shouldn’t.

I feel that authoritative parents try to structure them more then permissive parents. To me permissive I feel can be to laid back I feel that they may let their children get away with to much. I feel that permissive parents are supportive but I feel that by them not correcting or punishing their children for their mistakes can cause conflict. I feel that it is important to let children know right from wrong and how to acct in public as well. I feel that punishing an adolescent for their mistakes is a positive reinforcement.
