Commentary Analysis

The Republic Act 1425 or known as the Rizal Law is a good act which will make the students to know the life of Rizal, the true happenings and his writings. Based on the article, I don’t agree on using expurgated versions for the novels of Rizal because what’s the sense of that if they will provide edited parts or remove the offensive ones, they should respect his writings and produce the real. I understand the Church view of being offensive in their side, but I guess the novels are less related to them because it is written by Rizal many years ago which is the Spanish era. The bad image of the priests proclaimed by Rizal on his novels doesn’t mean that it is the same of the priests nowadays. I think the readers will not think the Church society as having a bad image just because of the novels.

I agree to the Section 2 which directs the schools to keep enough copies of the novels in the libraries. There should be enough references about Rizal’s life and writings because we should know a lot of things about our national hero. For the Section 3, I agree for having the novels which are translated into major Philippine languages so that everyone can fully understand the scope inside the novels. I don’t want Rizal’s novels for being free because such works has a worth. We should honor his works as being a professional and our national hero.
