Personal responsibility means different things to different people. For some, personal responsibility is something they take seriously. Others do not care as much. For me, personal responsibility means a lot. It means that I am responsible for my own actions, emotions, and success. I moved out of my father’s house when I was sixteen years old. I was then responsible to finish high school and provide my own shelter. I am not going to lie, I did get into trouble from time to time (never anything too serious), but I made sure to finish high school and stay employed. I had to learn responsibility the hard way. After I graduated high school, I decided to join the United States Navy. While in the military, I learned a great deal about personal responsibility while my responsibility was my country. I had to make sure I was on top of every aspect of my life. When you are responsible for the safety of everyone around you, you will have the realization that your actions matter to everyone.

Personal responsibility and college success go hand-in-hand. You are responsible for your assignments, grades, and focus. It is your own responsibility to find time to study. If your assignment is late, that was your decision. Your grades can go up or down based on how much work and dedication you put into your education. Being successful in college takes a lot of focus and hard work.

Right now I am working hard to finish college. While working on my Associates I worked two full-time jobs while attending class full time. I worked hard and found a job that paid more than both of those other jobs put together. I am not working on my Bachelors to help grow within this new company. If I have to go back to working two jobs again, that is fine. I am responsible for my own fate and I am determined not to sink.
