In the Webster's dictionary it defines hermeneutics as "The science of interpretation, or of finding the meaning of an author's words and phrases and of explaining it to others; exegesis; applied to the interpretation of the Scriptures. B. The heart of hermeneutics is centered in the word "interpretation". This word is used in both the Old and New Testament as follows: 1. The words in capital letters are the Hebrew and Chaldee langauage of the Old Testament. Together these words show interpretation to be an opening up, a breaking, explanation, solution, and a translation. They are mostly used in reference to the interpretation of dreams, although they are also used in relation to visions, proverbs, foreign languages, and various symbols. a. PATHAR - to open up; (fig) interpret; explain (a dream) Translated: interpreted interpreter, interpretation Genesis 40:8,16,22; 41:8,12,13,15 b. PITHRON - interpretation; explaination.
