Introduction

Riordan Manufacturing service request number 12 is the CEO’s request to summarize all business systems required for effective management. The summary includes all current business systems and any additional systems to fulfill a systems plan to improve management of the company. Riordan Manufacturing, a global plastics manufacturer, employs nearly 600 employees in Georgia, Michigan, California, and China. Primary manufacturing clients consist of automotive, aircraft, the Department of Defense, beverage makers and bottlers, and appliance manufacturers. Recently, the fan manufacturing operation was moved to China from the Michigan plant which as redesigned to manufacture custom plastic parts. This services request has several crucial business objectives included including the completion of important IT projects.

According to internal memos, the IT organization has been tasked with several challenging projects. The first project includes documenting the current environment, providing a five year forecast of the company’s business technology, and making recommendations on systems integration, acquisitions, and consolidations. The second project is the entire replacement of the Finance and Accounting (F&A) financial reporting systems, which has been included in the capital expense budget. The financial reporting systems overhaul will also require internal policy changes and additional employee training which leads into the next project. The third project is the design and implementation of a Learning Management System (LMS) as part of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS). The LMS will reduce costs associated with travel and training. The last project is the plant relocation from Hangzhou to Shanghai.
