The purpose for this team paper is to discuss three specific employment situations team A has encounter in their workplace. Team A will analyze the different situations and describe the legal actions taken to handle or to resolve their issues. This team paper will address the following items: The history and evolution of federal employment laws that pertain to the employment situations the three team members has encounter (facts/issues), describe how the federal employment law was effective in resolving or not resolving the three specific employment situations (law which statute), describe the federal employment act the employers is obligated to perform and comply, explain how the team members answer would change if one was a contract worker/ independent contractor, finally the team members will explain how the situation would change if one was in a union.

Facts/Issue

First Team Member

Mary Jones a former employee at David’s Bridal Corporate Office had encounter a work related issue while employed. Mary was the assistant to five buyers and the VP for the merchandising department. Mary was over worked and under paid with no time to take daily lunch breaks even though according to David’s Bridal employee’s hand book, their employees are entitle to a 15 minute break after four hours. However, Mary is employed at- will and can be discharged by David’s at any time for any reason. This is why she would work through her breaks to complete her daily task Monday though Friday. Mary would have meetings with her VP to discuss her daily workload. He would explain to her help was on the way. One day while at work Mary was assisting one of the shoe buyers with an issue and she notice her vision was blurry and she a severely bad headache. Mary left work for the day and went to the doctors. She was told she had a mini stroke.
