Abstract
This paper illustrates and interprets the importance of strategic management concepts: mission, vision, and other relevant subjects intrinsic to one specific company, known as American Airlines Corporation, in the U.S. airlines industry. Basically, this paper will begin with an introduction and general information about the company, how it developed historically and what problems it is experiencing. The second part of this paper consists of the strategic analysis section, diagnostic, scenarios, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT), corporate strategies, and financial ratios. Finally, the third part will present solutions and recommendations in a comprehensive and analytical manner. Keywords: SWOT, strategic management, financial ratios.
Introduction
Since the invention of the first airplane by the Wright brothers in 1903, air travel has facilitated world trade, economic growth, and tourism and is one of the most relevant components that determine the exercise of globalization taking place in many other industries.
This course has provided some of the strategic tools used in the decision making process of a firm and the analysis of its mission, vision, corporate strategies, markets, and intervention of the government in the different sectors of the economy. These tools will also allow understanding of the conditions of the U.S. airlines industry.
This research paper will explain and identify American Airlines main competitors, corporate strategies utilized, SWOT analysis, corporate scenarios, products and services offered sales methods, and recommendations for improvement and maximization of American Airlines shareholder’s profits....
