Evaluating My Career Goals
Evaluating my career goals is one of the most important and necessary steps I could make in my progression toward greater success in the workforce. I have learned that neglecting this step results in missed opportunities and even confusion when faced with a major decision concerning what is best for me and my career. Even at this stage in my employment development, I am grateful to be privy to this knowledge and any other tools that I receive that will ultimately help me to be prepared for unexpected challenges and major decisions.
When I finished college, I attained a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. I selected this particular field because of the varied opportunities that it would afford me to work in a arena that I love and excel in. In evaluating my career goals, I highly considered the following:
• I have always been good in all of my math subjects; and
• I wanted to continue to have the opportunity to work in a field that specialized in this field.
I was blessed to find gainful employment immediately with the State of Alabama
Emergency Management Agency, working with the Accounting Department. I started at the entry level, and found myself content for awhile. But I realized that I had greater potential than was required in my position. I found that it was possible to rise through the agency if I exuded potential, desire, respect, and skill. Therefore, these are the attributes that I decided to focus on so that I, too, could be among those who received promotions, better pay, and bonuses.
