Assignment #1 – Case Study: Chapter 4 – Planning the Needs of Other Organizations

1. Use the Internet to research and evaluate two (2) commercial HR database systems for your organization. Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each system and, based on your knowledge of human resources and database systems, propose one (1) package that would fit the needs of your organization. Suggest three (3) specific reasons why you would recommend that system over the other. Human Resources play a vital role in all corporations. “Corporations who invest in their Human Resource departments, usually reap the rewards of talented employees, loyalty, and improved productivity among other things” (Kavanagh & Thite, 2009). With that being said, when deciding upon a HR database system for an organization, ensuring the database system will exceed the needs of the business is crucial for success. Total benefits administration and People Soft are two commercial HR database systems that will be extremely beneficial to the organization. Without a doubt, each system comes with its share of advantages and disadvantages. Total benefits administration, owned and operated by Hewitt Associates, “a global human resources consulting and outsourcing services company, database has assisted nearly 6 million participants expanding across 153 companies and 21 plus industries” (www.bloomberg.com). Clearly, the total benefits administration database is successful if a significant amount of corporations in various industries have implemented it. A platform being able to handle a large volume as high as 9.6 million on a single day is indeed a reliability factor that is imperative to all organizations.
