Training Topic: How to give effective feedback

Training Time: 1 hour

Trainiees: Sport Coaches

Objective: Help coaches understand why giving feedback is important and how to give effective feedback

to boost confidence and better performance.

Goal: Training Sport Coaches so they can provide their athletes with in-depth and effective feedback to better the athletes. If after this training if the athlete improves based on the feedback was given then the training was effective. The coaches should be able to identify 1 or 2 new methods on how to give specific feedback.

Description: This training session will help coaches give effective feedback to their athletes. They will learn how to give specific and skill related feedback and criticism.

Procedure: Test out how much the group know about effective feedback before getting started. Review bad communication and good communication. Supply the group with examples of both bad and good communication. Cover what should be included in feedback; give examples of bad feedback and good feedback. Once the group was taught give them a chance to practice giving good feedback in the form of a game at the end of the training session. After the training session and once the group practiced, repeat the same test that was given before the training program began.

5 minutes | Introduce topic/Outline/Pretest | Hand out pre-test before talking about the topic to try to lessen biases. Introduce what feedback is, why feedback is important and outline the rest of the day to the group. |

2 minutes | Divide groups up | Predetermined groups will follow; everyone should move now and stand with their groups in a line. (If no groups are attached, just number people off) 4 groups of 4 forming a line of 16 people. Each group will be coaches from a different specific sport. |
