Abstract

This paper is about me assuming the role of a mutual fund manager deciding if to invest in Starbucks Corporation. Based on the information that I will gather from the SWOT analysis, I will explain what is relevant to my decision whether, or not to invest in Starbucks Corporation. I will look through the company’s internal and external stakeholders to see what their wants and needs are. I will also show if Starbucks is fulfilling those needs, or if Starbucks is not meeting the needs of their stakeholders.

There are several companies listed in Fortune 500. I decided to choose Starbucks because it is here in Seattle, Washington. Starbucks began in 1971 when they were a roaster and retailer of whole bean and ground coffee, spices, and tea with a store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Today Starbucks is connecting with millions of customers with exceptional products of, coffee, pastries, juices, tazo tea, sodas, whole coffee beans, and merchandise- such as CDs, mugs, books, and music with more than 17,000 retail stores in 50 countries. Starbucks mission is to inspire, and nurture the human spirit- on person, one cup and one neighborhood (Starbucks, 2011).

According to Fortune 500 Starbucks Ranks 227 and previously ranked 229. Fortune 500 shows the revenues for Starbucks as 11,700.4 million that is a 9.3% change from 2010; their profits were 1,245.7 million with a 31.7 % change since 2010. Assets 7,360.4 millions, Stockholder’s equity 4,384.9 millions, and market value as of March 29, 2012 are 41,987.0 millions (CNN Money Fortune 500-SBUX, 2012).
