Background of the Study

Telecommunication companies have touched many Filipino lives for many years. Filipinos adapted this way of communication for being the easiest, cheapest and most convenient way of communicating.

The concept of prepaid phone cards was originated it Italy by SIDA to seek alternative means of using coins to operate pay phones. Badly, there was a shortage of metal coins and the phones were being destroyed or stolen. In 1976, the first phone card was released; it is like a credit card that has magnetic strip to deal the coins shortage. Through the decades, the prepaid phone cards innovated and improved its features for the convenience and stability of consumers and industries. In 200, the industry released the first prepaid cell phone. It is work like calling cards. The users buy recharge cards for their phones (Long Distance Post/Belmont Telecom Inc., 2011)

Short Messaging Service (SMS) invaded the Philippines and there are two giants companies evolve where in Globe Telecom and Smart Comm. Inc., give great service of telecommunication. Years later, Sun Cellular came and made the nation together with the two giants companies astonished because of its 24/7 unlimited call and text offer for Sun-to-Sun transactions. Globe Telecom and Smart Comm. Inc. find strategies that will lead back their old subscribers (How to use, 2010).

Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) incorporated in 1991. As of February 2003, Smart became the leading wireless services provider with over 9 million subscribers in the Philippines.
