Quality Control: Who’s Responsible?

Quality Control seems to have become secondary to safety in today’s society. Many companies and industries have become profit-obsessed instead of taking in account the safety of its products and services to its consumers. The question is, “Who is responsible for quality control in companies and industries?” Companies and industries that have poor quality control guidelines in place should be held responsible for the safety and quality of its products and services. Unsafe, hazardous, or defective products have been put on the market at the expense of the consumers from lack of quality control. The problem is so vast that six federal agencies have joined forces to inform America of U. S. Government recalls (www.recall.gov). This paper will provide the definition of quality control, background information on quality control, give the importance of quality control, present the qualifications of quality control personnel, furnish the quality control tools used, expound on failed quality control products, and share on who is responsible for quality control.

The term Quality Control should be synonymous across the nation. The American Society of Quality Control defines quality control as “The operational techniques and the activities which sustain a quality of product or service that will satisfy given needs (http://referenceforbusiness.com/enclyclopedia.com/encyclopedia/Pro-Res/Quality-control.html). They also believe that the term quality control should include the aim of quality that is not only satisfactory, but safe, adequate, dependable, and economical. Many companies’ products manufactured today are not safe, adequate, dependable, or economical because the ultimate goal of the manufacturer is to produce products quickly in order to make a profit.
