Knowledge Management in Construction Organizations

Executive Summary

This report is going to introduce the topic of knowledge management applied specifically in construction organizations. The major purpose is aimed to produce some valuable recommendations in accordance with current KM issues which will be examined in various ways within this report. Basically by initially analyzing and reviews background of knowledge management around whole construction industry and also a considerable number of literatures and views, the key points from all sources have demonstrated the problems existed are hardly being monitored and improved effectively especially in construction areas. In addition, linking between theoretical concepts and practical facts is using by evaluation and assessment from two different case studies, one is small-medium sized Taiwan construction company and another one is from Irish Huge construction organization with more than 700 hundred employees. The point of view for these two cases will be focused on knowledge share, apply, and create in first company as well as individual knowledge, project knowledge and organizational knowledge will be discussed in large one. Sufficient comparison and adequate discussions have produced the key issues those two companies suffered currently under knowledge management. Therefore a critical thinking is prepared to consider the specific situations and facts of operating knowledge flowing. Eventually, a series of recommendations and future development discussions will be released to help the thoughts of innovation improvement and performance of knowledge management.
