1. Why do you think UPS is embracing sustainable technologies?

Technology today is helping UPS to be able to provide a service to businesses and the community at a lower cost. Technology today can give UPS the opportunity to be more efficient in its operations all while cutting cost. This include improving the speed of delivery to individuals and businesses, while trying to find more efficient ways to choose routes to deliver packages, and lessen the time spent on the engine being in a idling position.

2. How is UPS developing a sustainable MIS infrastructure?

UPS is finding ways they can still offer the service of delivery while cutting cost by saving the company money. Installing sensors is one way that the UPS team can acquire information that is helpful in making decisions about cutting the fuel consumption and ways they can save money. This will help the company make decisions on how to maximize fuel efficiency. Also UPS is trying to find a way to avoid making duplicate trips to deliver packages. Making trips to the same locations can be redundant if the full efficiency of the service is not being utilized. If making a trip to a particular location can be sent same day at a later time when more packages are available , this will help save the company a lot of money.

3. What business benefits will UPS gain from virtualization?

Virtualization will give UPS the opportunity to benefit from using one machine versus multiple machines; this will combine the copier, fax, printer, and answering machine all in one. By combining all into one, you are saving on energy by plugging up one machine instead of multiple machines, reducing costs by purchasing one machine versus multiple ones. Virtualization will give UPS the opportunity to have a vast of applications available to use that will give a higher level of performance, more energy efficient so multiple machines will not all be running at the same time, and also by having multiple operating systems...
