I will recommend what type of computer system would be the best fit for the scenarios in Appendix C. I will use what I have learned in chapter two to determine which system would be best for each individual or organization.
Scenario One
Sarah’s Flower Designs would benefit the most from a minicomputer. A minicomputer is powerful enough to serve Sarah’s home-based business in Madison, Wisconsin, house client information and order histories, and keep up with the growing demand of her customers. I would recommend at least two monitors for Sarah and Mark to see the information and keyboards each to input data. A mouse for each would be recommended to quickly manipulate items on the monitor screen. With the proper programs Sarah’s Flower Designs can keep track of purchasing, inventory, financial and client records. Sarah would also be able to bill her customers electronically. Adding a printer would allow Sarah to make copies of records for clients, print out history reports or receipts, and produce fliers for advertising. A bar code scanner would be useful for accurately tracking inventory and more rapid, precise, checkouts. For Kim out on the road making deliveries I would recommend a handheld computer with wireless access. This would allow Kim to keep track of customer addresses and to receive new, or specific, instructions while still on the road.
Scenario Two
SBI Corporation would benefit the most from a mainframe computer. A mainframe computer would be powerful enough to handle SBI Corporation’s Web site with 24 hour a day access to
