Consider the appeal of three well-known picture books. Is it the freshness of language, the humour, the imaginative plot, illustrations, significance to a child’s world or more?

“Charlotte’s Web”, written by E.B. White, “The Paper Bag Princess”, written by Robert Munsch, and “Hana’s Suitcase”, written by Karen Levin, are the three well-known picture books I choose to talk about. The freshness of language, the humour, the imaginative plot, illustrations, of these three books is significance to children’s world, and I am going to discuss it concisely.

First of all, E.B. White described the acts of animals as what human beings do in the reading of “Charlotte’s Web”. The author mainly used animals as the characters, and they can communicate with children in the story. The story talked about what the animals did in the farm, and how they care and protect each of them. How is the freshness of language significance to children? There are not many children readings’ main characters used with animals, so children might feel interested in reading the book. The conversations between the animals would attract children’s attention to read the story, and what the animals did could teach children what treasure is. On the other hand, the language of “The Paper Bag Princess” built up the fighting and marrying thoughts of children. The story first told children the princess and the prince were going to get marry, but then since the dragon appeared and the fight between them made the princess looked poor, the prince went away. How many endings of story would be that poor? The prince abandons the princess? It is definitely freshness significance to children. The story taught children that they have to choose their princes carefully, and they have to avoid their princes only like good looking. “Hana’s Suitcase” talked about a true story of a girl and her family at three different places.
