Case Study 2: Green Computing Research Project – Part 2

The Green Computing Research Project team is working hard to make sure that their quality of work meets the expectations of all key stakeholders. The team has created a detailed project scope statement and schedule. Ben, the project sponsor has expressed his devotion to the success of this project in numerous ways. It is important to be able to show visible representations of information regarding the status, success, and failures of the project. Excel is a preferred application to use to create these visual representations. This is a plus for me as I am experienced with Excel. I would like to be more knowledgeable about all aspects of the project and status of various stages. This knowledge will help me to better serve and meet the objectives of the project and stakeholders.

Select one (1) of the seven (7) tools of quality from Chapter 8 and create a scenario related to this project where it would be useful.

Of the seven available tools of quality to use I would use flow charts to help to depict the amount of energy used during various times in the data center. I have created the following scenario to depict how to the use of the flowcharts would be useful. In monitoring the energy usage of the data center it is seen that there are spikes in the consumption of energy during the mid morning and afternoon hours. The energy consumption is being monitored based on the energy consumed by the equipment and the consumption by humans.

Energy readings are being taken at specific time intervals for a specified amount of time and on a daily basis for 5 days. During the reading times monitors are looking for spikes in the consumption of energy during specific times and the usage per machine.
