1. How is the IKEA operations design different from that of most furniture retail operations?

Fist of all, the reason why IKEA is able to operating above 300 stores all over the world, because IKEA has a clear , flexible and user friendly philosophy, also the company focus on good quality and durability, at the low cost design with the "do it yourself option (DIY)" on a large scale for consumers. Founder Ingvar Kamprad was to design functional furniture that was convenient and inexpensive to build. He simply set the furniture out as it would be in a domestic setting, and display it on the showroom floor with detailed explanation tickets, making sales person assistance unnecessary.

On the other hand, a wide range of home furnishing items of good design and function. IKEA offers ‘Value for Money’ furniture with a wide range of choice. The company consistently delivers DIY products that you can take away as a ‘flat pack’ and rebuild at the place according to customer own requirement. It doesn't just offer furniture - if you wanted a dining table, you could also buy cutlery, vases, a plant, napkins, a lamp etc. For attract customer and remain, IKEA take care of customer’s child, even invest to build Young Children Zone, supervised child’s play area, a small cinema and so on.

IIKEA like to allow customers to make up their minds in their own time. IKEA parts of showroom are set out in ‘room settings’, while other parts show similar products together, so that customers can make comparisons. Every piece of furniture carries a ticket with code number which indicates the location in the warehouse from where it can be collected. After the showroom, customers pass through the self-service warehouse where they can pick up the items they viewed in the showroom. The exit area has service points and often a ‘Swedish shop’ with Swedish foodstuffs.
