Huffman Trucking is a national transportation operation with four locations across the United States. These locations include California (Office and Plant), Missouri (Office and Plant), New Jersey (Office and Plant) and Ohio (Office and Plant). Primary customers of Huffman Trucking include the U.S. Government, manufacturers of automotive parts, electronic consumer product supplies, manufacturers of plastic products and customers requiring special accommodations. As Huffman’s customer base grows and the need to process, track, and service customer accounts faster and more accurately becomes evident, the appropriate Information Systems must be put in place to support this growth. This paper will address an information system critical to the business processes of Huffman Trucking and the benefits that can be realized.

Currently each site has a different network infrastructure which poses a challenge for seamless integration. The need to have each Plant’s network interconnected and communicating back to a central hub is ever increasing as Huffman pursues more clientele. In order to efficiently service customers, process and track orders the system must be designed in a matter that allows management locally and remotely. Local systems should have databases and application servers that can process and track orders while syncing to a centrally located server at the designated main office. Designing the system in this manner will enable timely system updates, inventory management, accountability, backup and recovery. The system should be scalable and easy to integrate across a secured network. One of the most feasible solutions for accomplishing this task would be an Enterprise Resource Planning solution.
