Hapaq-Lloyd’s Organizational Structure

Hapaq-Lloyd is a company with global operations. Recently it reduced its number of regional headquartered offices from five to three. They now have branches in Europe, Asia and America. The company is very diversity provides a wide range of logistical services and products. The company is well known for its maritime container shipping services. However, it provides logistics related services in many different areas, such as executive and commercial aviation, cruises and cruise liners, trucking and railway services. Many may not be aware that they also provide IT services.

The company has a shallow management structure and a short decision making network. Although, its headquarters is located in Hamburg, the organizational blueprint is identical worldwide. Each regional division operates a business administration, operations and sales and customer service department. Each region performs the business in the same manner.

The three regional headquarters are located in Hamburg, New Jersey and Singapore with the Group headquarters (Executive Board) is based in Hamburg. A depiction of the organizational chart is provided below.

Hapaq-Lloyd’s management plan and managers are focused on business growth and sustainment. Key managers (Staff Management, Director of Maritime, Operations Manager and Transportation Analyst) have specific responsibilities to execute. They are focused on a five year plan and activities that must occur to create and maintain a successful maritime operation. Specific responsibilities are outlined
