The importance of making critical evaluations about news stories arises daily as we all see the disasters and tragedies that are going on around us in our country and in others across the world. One such example that comes to mind is that story of Casey Anthony. She was acquitted of charges brought against her citing failure to report her daughter missing, sending rescue crews out for weeks searching for a little girl that some argued that Casey Anthony already knew was dead. As the investigation progressed and the search for Caylee Anthony grew dimmer, the evidence police found on Casey’s computer where she had ordered Chloroform and in her car where it was reported to have the “smell of a decomposing body” fuming from her trunk piled up against her as she awaited her trial on what would soon develop into a murder case. After discovering this new information, police immediately looked to Casey for some explanations. Casey’s first lie was that she left her daughter Caylee with a nanny by the name of Zenaida Gonzalez, whom Casey said, had abducted little Caylee Anthony. The Anthony family’s story changed a number of times regarding Caylee’s whereabouts once police discovered that they were running in circles looking for a little girl that was not ever really missing. I think that news stations nationwide caught this story and stayed current with the latest updates in the case against Casey Anthony and continue even after being acquitted. News media continues to cover the latest news surrounding Casey Anthony and her future plans now that she is off of probation. Some of the facts in this case were kept quiet for a short period of time until authorities were sure that the body they had found was that indeed of Caylee Anthony’s found just one mile outside of the area where Casey Anthony lived.
