The purpose of the proposal that we are writing is to give recommendations which are implemented with the principles of the Global Compact. We will suggest some approaches which help in improving compliance to principles 1, which is “Business should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights” and principle 7, which is “Business should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.” (Ten Principles 2011)
The Body Shop International PLC is a cosmetic company which leading socially and environmentally responsible. We sells naturally base products such as skin care, body care and cosmetic products which are not tested on animal and fair trade products. Our company comes up with five core principles which comply with our mission statements in order to equalize the needs of social, economic and environment. (Value Report, 2009; Company Overview 2006)
Our company believe that if an organization wants to run their business well, they should aware of and take into account about the relationship with stakeholders, not only shareholders, in order to achieve long term success. Survey and stakeholder panel review meeting (involve stakeholder opinion about the company’s current performance and accessing internal corporate practices) also have been conducted to determine how well our company have achieved our value and mission. Surveys are done on our customers, employees, NGOs and experts. (Value Report 2009)
To show our company’s commitments to environmental and social responsibility, we had come out with campaigns such as “Stop Child Trafficking”, “Join the fight against HIV”, “Stop Violence in the Home”, and “Protect Our Planet”, these are what we done to achieve compliance with the principle 1 and 7.(Value Report 2009) Some of the companies may not see this area of activities as what a company should give responsible to, but for us, we treat it as a pathway to achieve long term success.
