Dear Patrick,

How are you? I’m so happy to receive your letter! I know you are having problems on writing short stories for your assignment, so here’s some advice for you to write a good short story and make it interesting.

First, you need to set a theme for your story. Therefore, readers can simply know what message you are giving out by writing this short story.

Next, you have to think about the setting of your story. It’s the time and place that your story takes place. Good time and place can make your story more attractive. Your story can be set at any time in human history or in the future. The place can be where the character lives, a café, a beach, or even an imaginary place.

Then, you need to think about the characters. They can be real person, imaginary person, animals or personified objects. You should think a name for them as well as their genders and appearances. Of course you can also write about their ages, likes and dislikes. Absorbing characters can make people like your story more.

After, you have to think about the plot. Plot is important for your story. It’s like a pyramid including opening, build-up, problem, events, resolution and end. Without any of them, your story will be not completed.

To make your story interesting, you may create plot twist. It’s a change in the direction of a plot. The idea of it is to make the audience feel like they know what is going on but then surprise them with an interesting twist. This is going to make your readers feel special and they will be curious and interested in your whole story.

Finally, you need to end up your story with a good closing. You can close your story with a question, a moral, proverb, saying or a joke, a ‘never again’ statement and so on.

I hope these advices can help you to finish your assignment successfully. I’m always willing to help you with your problem so don’t be shy to write me!

Love,

Sponge
