Pediatric Occupational Therapy

Abstract

Occupational Therapy consists of many different areas that one may choose to specialize in. Brittany feels that she would like to specialize in Pediatric Occupational Therapy after she is finished with school. She feels that it would a great fit for her due to her childhood, and also feels that it would very rewarding for her. She hopes to one day be able to focus on children with disabilities such as autism or other developmental disorders. As an Occupational Therapist Assistant working in pediatrics, she would be able to do many different things such as working with children on their fine motor skills or helping children with severe developmental delays. She looks forward to being able to work with children with disabilities or injuries.

Pediatric Occupational Therapy

In the field of Occupational Therapy, there are many specific areas that one could choose from to specialize in. As a student at Keiser University, Brittany believes that she would like to specialize in Pediatric Occupational Therapy once she graduates and is in practice as an Occupational Therapist Assistant. Pediatric Occupational Therapy would mean that she would specialize in working with infants and children, ages Newborn to 18 years old.

An Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) specializing in Pediatrics can work almost anywhere. They can work in a school system, children’s hospital, private practice, or in-home health care (Harron, 2010, para. 12). Brittany thinks that she will want to work in a children’s hospital after school. She is thinking about beginning her career at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, then eventually moving to Gainesville to work at Shands Children’s Hospital, or maybe to Jacksonville to Nemours Children’s Hospital.

Working as an OTA in a children’s hospital can be a very rewarding job, but Brittany thinks that it takes a certain kind of person to work in that environment. You...
