Legend in the Making

The Grandson of a famous NASCAR Legend lost his life, before he had a chance to become a potential legend like his grandfather. (CNN Sports, 2000) One crash took it all away for Adam Petty and the potential career that lied ahead of him. Adam petty is the grandson of legendary race car driver Richard Petty and son of Kyle Petty, who are both former NASCAR racers. Richard Petty and Lee Petty are legends of the sport of NASCAR. Adam Petty was born on July 10,, 1980 in High Point, North Carolina. He was born in to NASCAR royalty as a Fourth generation athlete of the sport of NASCAR. (NASCAR Heven.itgo.com, 2000) Adam was born in to a family in NASCAR that has all the resources to make a driver go very far in the sport. At the young age of 6 years old Adam got into the sport of Kart racing and from that point on started to climb the ranks in the sport of racing.

“Adam lost his life in a practice crash at New Hampshire International Speedway. Adam Petty was in his second full season on the NASCAR Busch Series. He finished in the top-5 three times in his first full season of racing in 1999. He finished 20th in the final driver points standings and third in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year standings.”(NASCARheavenitgo.com, 2000) This young driver made NASCAR debut in 1997 in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. He ran 25 races. On October 17, 1998, Adam made his first NASCAR Busch Series start at Gateway International Raceway - finishing 27th place. Adams first Craftsman truck start was in 1999 at Richmond INT Speedway and his first cup start was April 2nd 2000 at Texas Motor speedway where he ended up finishing 40th.
