The Inequality of Women’s Rights

“When woman are the advisors”, Louisa Alcott says, “the lords of creation don’t take the advice till they have persuaded themselves that it is just what they intended to do. Then they act upon it, and, if it succeeds, they give the weaker vessel half the credit of it. If it fails, they generously give her the whole.” This is how women have been treated.

Throughout the history of America women have been unjustly wronged; especially in the areas of income, career opportunities, and insurances. For decades women have been denied equal pay compared to men doing the same job. Not only have women been denied equal pay they also have been denied other opportunities that men receive. In order to bring about a change to get women to have equal rights as men, people need to bring about a change through politics, rallies, and possible sit-ins so that the general public becomes aware of the current injustice that women are going through each and every day.

The Supreme Court recently declared that employees who face pay discrimination based upon gender, race, ethnicity and etc. cannot virtually take any action against their current employer after 180 days of employment (ACLU 1). Most people facing this pay discrimination may not realize it till years later after which could add up to thousands of dollars of lost income. You can see this type of discrimination almost everywhere in today’s society. A good example of this pay discrimination comes in the field of nursing. Men and Women with the exact same work history, credentials, education and have the exact same job in nursing greatly differ in the pay. The men, will most likely receive some type of a sign on bonus that ranges from $10,000.00 to $20,000.00 and will make at least $4,000.00 dollars more a year compared to that of a woman according to the location and size the Hospital that employs them (Incarnato 1).
