A. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
1. Summary statement of the problem:
Church & Dwight, also known by their brand name “Arm & Hammer,” has been a leading producer of household products using sodium bicarbonate for around 160 years. Church and Dwight have expanded the uses of sodium bicarbonate to promote growth and diversity while maintaining a steady profitability, and have also dived into selling other products as well. Church and Dwight have played with the idea of seeking out a diverse group of consumer products in international markets, which could be a viable option to maintain their profitability margins into the 21st century. (Wheelen & Hunger, p. 35-12, 2012).
2. Summary statement of the recommended solution:
Church and Dwight is a rather small company compared to their competitors. The company must recognize the challenges of growing sales through acquiring companies and products in the effort to promote growth and competitiveness within those markets, Church & Dwight will need to incorporate companies with solid brands and products in order to grow market share by expanding their product lines into a variety of “personal care, deodorizing and cleaning, and laundry products” as well as “specialty chemicals, animal nutrition, and specialty cleaners” (Wheelen & Hunger, p. 35-6, 2012). For Church and Dwight to hold their position in the world market they will have to expand into international markets and get a foothold on product markets by obtaining companies with manufacturing assets. Just shipping products from state side and then overseas is not cost effective and using foreign manufacturing assets will get them product recognition by foreign consumers.
