Introduction to Psychological Testing Paper
The term test means to explore the underlying theory of multi-scientific subjects or a particular scientific subject by using various methodologies to interpret human behavior (Delis, 1998). The purpose of testing is to get a comprehensive understanding of human behaviors, actions, reasoning, thinking, attitudes, beliefs and emotions through the use of various methodologies. Psychologists use a series of oral questions and written surveys to determine the quality of an individual’s lifestyle and performance in life. Psychology testing is structured to help a person seek the meaning of his or her own life by analyzing their early childhood and adolescent years. Human motivation, issues of low self-esteem, lack of self-worth, seeking others approval, and other related behavioral issues are also dealt with through the use of psychological tests. Psychological testing continues to be a strength in the field of psychological research, pathology and forensics, in which the theories for psychology were founded on investigating and interpreting human behavior.
COMPONENTS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING
The first component of psychological testing is the intake process or initial assessment and clinical interview. The intake process collects data such as employment history, education, family background, marital status, mental health history, and alcohol and drug addiction. The clinical interview is vital to complete prior to the admission of any psychological tests and is the source for psychological diagnosis.
