“Marketing is the performance of activities that seek to accomplish an organization’s objectives by anticipating customer or client needs and directing a flow of need-satisfying goods and services from producer to customer or client.”(Perreault, Cannon, McCarthy) When I think about marketing and the important role it plays in pretty much every organization I really think about the advertising slogans that are made to sell products as well as the time that goes into determining who the intended target market is for each product or company. In order for businesses to be successful they need to sell their products but in the same light they need to sell themselves to the customer to maintain their loyalty.
As the text book states’ marketing applies to both profit and non profit organizations and also focuses on the needs of the customers. It allows the exchange of need satisfying for the customer’s money. For marketing to happen on something has to be exchanged for something else.
The American Marketing Association lists the definition of marketing as “Marketing is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large.”(Definition Of Marketing ", 2012)
Part of the important of marketing in the success of businesses is the relationships it helps organizations establish. Marketing also helps to develop long term and short term plans for the company and that would allow the organization to budget and set times lines for future products and goals. All successful organizations have goals and plans in place to help minimize failure and also keep a competitive edge.
