A More Perfect Union response paper

"A More Perfect Union" is speech written by Barack Obama. The author conveys to his audience the importance of looking beyond covert issues that exist in racism and really looking into our problems and create a plan to change them. His points about distraction from the real problems are made by talking about his former pastor's racial remarks and how the media tries link them to him. He explains how the man he is has something to do with his pastor and that's because along with the bad there is also good. The main point for bringing up that situation is to let his audience know that the way a lot of people view racial issues is due to the era they grew up and their mentality is the same. But he does not agree with how they feel about no progression in our society. Instead he advocate that we have accomplished a lot and we can ultimately create a perfect union just as the constitution grants us. Reverse racism is what's halting progress in Americans getting rid of racism.

Minorities are not the only race suffering in America and this assumption is harming both minority and white race. Some white's are in the same financial boats as a suffering black person. They certainly do not feel privileged because of the color of their skins. "So when they are told to bus their children to a school across town; when they hear that an African American is getting

an advantage in landing a good job or spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed...resentment builds over time"(50-51). This outlines the reason why whites look upon blacks a certain way and that's because they are not offered equal opportunities based on the color of their skin in certain places. The situation is as if everyone has trade places, which is the same racism reversed.
