Personal Values of Kudler Fine Foods

Kudler Fine Foods has built their business with the vision of providing the finest, gourmet product for their shoppers. Regardless of price Kudler Fine Foods aims to sell top quality ingredients in fine neighborhoods (Kudler Fine Foods, 2003). The manager and founder of Kudler Fine Foods, Kathy Kudler, has established her business in several communities by demonstrating solid integrity in delivering on her vision to her customers. Since this is a business that caters to a community, it is important for the health of both the business and the neighborhood that the leaders of Kudler Fine Foods demonstrate good ethics and values. The impact of the decisions of Kudler Fine Foods will be felt by the surrounding public, so it is very crucial that the business demonstrate servant leadership as ethically they have an obligation to that community. With that in mind, Kathy has done her best to make use of situations that occur in her business to help out in the community. One example is that she will donate some of the food that is about to perish, but still in good condition to local homeless shelters. She also allows some employees to take some food home to feed families, because she realizes that she is not able to compete with the wages other similar business in the areas offer (Kudler Fine Foods, 2003). Kathy knows that in the neighborhoods she has targeted to open her stores, the cost of living is relatively high and if she cannot benefit her employees by paying better, she can at least help them put food on the table. Although, this is not true servant leadership, because true servant leadership puts obligation more on helping the individual rather than the company (Greenleaf, 1977), these actions demonstrate her values are ethical as she is doing something positive to help the community and her employees.
