Nomination for Project India

Our nomination for Project India is Afzaal Altaf. Afzaal brings qualities that we feel as a team will make the ideal candidate for Project India. His assessments indicate he prefers working in teams and on group projects, ideal traits for managing a team in India. The India project will present significant challenges to the selected individual. This individual will need a comprehensive understanding of the culture, have a strong ability to manage a team, as well as have personality traits to deal with a variety of challenging situations. We feel Afzaal has the traits necessary.

His personality assessments indicate he is a moderate Type A personality. His score on the flexibility assessment is 120, indicating that he can experience considerable stress in situations that go against his expectations. However, he gives importance to details in some tasks, but shows some inflexibility in other situations. Afzaal may need to brush up on how to be more flexible in some situations. Flexibility will be important since Afzaal will be working with many different people. There will be an adjustment period in which they will all be getting to know one another and they will be learning how each other handles things.

Utilizing the Big Five Personality assessment in Colquitt et al. (2011), indicated he scored near the norms. His scores describe his ability to perform a range of different and related activities. Afzaal’s personality is ideally suited to lead this new group in our Project India task. The only question that comes to mind as far as the personality assessment is how do the people think that Afzaal will be working with and will he “fit” in?

He also ranks reasonably high in understanding cultural diversity. An understanding of cultural diversity is necessary for working as an expatriate in another country, with a vastly different culture than that of his home country of Pakistan as well as the United States. Afzaal will...
