Groups and Teams
There is not a big difference between groups and teams. Depending on the situation and circumstances decides whether the set of people is called a group or team. The people come together to reach a common goal of completing a task or assignment. Groups and teams do not differ dramatically.
Groups
Groups are defined as a number of individuals assembled together or possessing some unifying relationship (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2011). The term group is normally used when the individuals involved are coming together to complete a task in any environment. A group is a term that can be used to describe more than one individual’s meeting together for any reason. A cluster of people can be just standing around and be called a group. They do not even have to require knowledge of each other. A group presentation is the summing up of each group member contributions (Robbins & Judge, 2009).
Teams
Teams are defined as a number of individuals connected together in work or activity (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2011). A team differs from a group because a team is always on the same side working toward a common goal. A team works together and takes care one other. Teams win and lose together no matter what the circumstances are. Many teams are successful because the individuals of the team bring different skills and talents to the team (Kamberg, 2001). Not all groups are a team but all teams are a group.
