“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
These lines were said by the inventor of the bulb, Thomas Alva Edison. Trying to expand on this line, I, Kshitij Gupta, from X-A, will like to speak few words.
The real meaning of the word persevere from which perseverance is derived, as put forward by the oxford dictionary is – to continue in a course of action in spite of difficulties or lack of success. And what other way to explain this topic than putting up examples of some of those important people whom we always look forward for some inspiration.
You all know the success story of Bill Gates, J.K. Rowling or Albert Einstein, but do you know what they have in common? They failed at first. Yes, a failure, be a flop, muff their chance. I mean they didn’t jump right into success. That’s what I want to emphasize today. I want to pay tribute to those who never give up, who continue to fight, and who are able to gather all their energy to finally embrace it; the success.
Nearly everyone standing here would have heard the name of walt Disney and admired probably one of his greatest works, the mickey mouse. But not many know the story before –
• Walt formed his first animation company in Kansas City in 1921. He made a deal with a distribution company in New York, in which he would ship them his cartoons and get paid six months down the road. He was forced to dissolve his company and at one point could not pay his rent and was surviving by eating dog food.
• Walt created a mildly successful cartoon character in 1926 called Oswald the Rabbit. When he tried to negotiate with his distributor, Universal Studios, for better rates for each cartoon, he was informed that Universal had obtained ownership of the Oswald character and they had hired Disney's artists out from under him.
• When Walt tried to get MGM studios to distribute Mickey Mouse in 1927 he was told that the idea would never work-- a giant...
