Problem Solution: Foundation Schools

Foundation Schools is the leading educator of special needs students in the United States (Scenario: Foundation Schools). Although they only exist in three cities in California, Foundation Schools is looking to expand to outlining communities to provide this excellent service to more students. Currently the board of directors is made up of business minded professionals and one teacher. The chairman, John Thomas, has worked diligently over the past three years to bring Foundation Schools out of dept and begin to start increasing its revenue. He has a strong business background and has worked hard to build the board of directors into a business minded board to achieve its goals. Foundation Schools has many goals, one being to expand into outlining communities. To do this, the board will have to put together a strategic management plan in hopes to raise revenue to obtain more building space for the expansion.

“Successfully formulating and implementing your strategic plan requires a program management framework to ensure an effective and orderly flow of work and deliverables” (Mesa Research Group, 2002).   Foundation Schools is having some trouble formulating a plan in which to meet its objectives of raising the teacher student ratio to 4:1, increasing student enrollment, and increasing revenue. The board of directors has met its financial needs the last two years and is now looking at a strategic plan in order for them to meet their goals of increasing the schools’ effectiveness and expanding their enterprise. The three year strategic plan developed by John and the board, lists a number of projects that need be completed to realize their new vision.
