Expected learning outcomes:

1. understand the nature of research

2. narrow down a topic to a workable research scope

3. develop a thesis statement that express the topic as and opinion and outlines the structure of the remaining parts of the paper

5.) gather information from the library and the by using title, author and keyword search.

6.) evaluate the relevance and reliability of the materials gathered from various sources.

7.) unfold an academic discussion on a certain topic by going through the research process

8.) present a completed research in written form with all necessary components of a research report

9.) handle in text citations and reference list in proper APA referencing style

Assignment 1: Group Research Paper

Form a group of 3 – 4 students in each. Your grouping will have to be approved by your Instructor. Decide on an issue or a topic that the group members as a whole are interested in and conduct a research on the issue or topic before writing up your group research paper.

Do the following:

1. Decide on a topic or an issue that involves researching information. Your topic or issue must be approved by your Instructor first before you should go ahead with conducting the research.

2. Submit an outline of your research paper to your Instructor for approval before you start writing up the research paper. Indicate on the outline the name of the group member who is going to write up that section of the research paper. There should be even division of labour in completing the group research paper.

3. Submit an interim group research paper in Week 6. Your group should complete 40% of your work including cover page, content page Literature Review and Method.

4. Make sure your research paper contains all the necessary parts of a research paper.

5. Submit your group research paper by Week 9.
