Table 1 shows the difference between the given math test results of male and female students.

n1 - number of boys

n2 - number of girls n1=10 n2=10

x1 - mean score of boys x1=2.4 x2=2.6

x2 - mean score of girls s1=1.78 s2=1.65

s1 - standard deviation of scores (boys)

s2 – standard deviation of scores (girls)

S2p=n1-1S12+(n2-1)S22n1+n2-2=2.93 tc=x1-x2S2p1n1+1n2=-0.26

Ho: There is no significant difference on the mean test scores of boys and girls.

Ha: The mean test scores of boys is higher than the mean score of girls.

Decision Rule: Reject Ho if tc>t0.025,18 t0.025,18=2.101

Decision: Accept Ho.

CONCLUSION

At α=0.05, it is therefore concluded that there is no significant difference between the mean scores of boys and girls. It only proves that gender is not concerned with the intellectual capability of a person in math.

INTRODUCTION

A worldwide controversy is the notion of who are smarter; boys or girls .Some people claims that boys are smarter than girls are in every aspect of life while others argue that girls are more intelligent than boys.

Several researches have already been conducted to determine who really is smarter of the two groups. Researchers such as John Philippe Rushton, a british professor at the Uiversity of Onterio, argues that men are more intelligent than women.
