Case Analysis

This case study is an attempt to recognize the key issues as well as determining a way to improve the process. With the information attained, I believe that the lack of planning, communication and lack of employee experience has led to failure of completing the task necessary to have the new staff trained and working by a certain deadline.

Background

In early April, Carl Robins, the new campus recruiter for ABC, Inc., hired 15 new employees disregarding the fact that Mr. Robins only had six months experience in the recruiting position. The new staff was hired to work under Monica Carrolls, the Operations Supervisor, with hopes that all the new staff would start working by July. Monica contacted Carl regarding the training schedule such as physicals and drug tests. Carl assured Monica that everything would be arranged in time. In the beginning of June, Carl was in his office reviewing all the paperwork he needed for orientation. As Carl was going thru the files he became concerned. Some of the new staff member did not have applications or transcripts completed, and none of them had been sent to the clinic for their mandatory drug test. To top it off, a few of the orientation manuals were found but had several pages missing out of them. I believe the cause of this issue was the lack of experience in the recruiting position as well as the lack of communication between Carl and Monica with the orientation paperwork needed. I feel like Monica could have assisted Carl with the paperwork. Once again, Carl should have asked Monica for some type of guidance or assistance. Most importantly, when Carl went to go check out the training room for orientation, he found out that Joe, from technology had already scheduled the training room for the entire month of June for computer training seminars. Now, lack of communication and poor planning from Carl was the cause for the confusion of the scheduling for training room.
