Organizational Communication in Starbucks

Introduction

Organizational communication refers the process of conveying messages within or outside the organization (Hodgkinson & Starbuck, 2008). It is the way of sharing information as well as message. Starbucks operates at the international level in coffee supply as a coffeehouse chain (Starbucks Coffee Company, 2002). Organizational communication at Starbucks is effectively developed.

Leadership Style

Leadership style plays an important role in an organization in terms of organizational communication. Leadership style of the organization helps to determine the effectiveness of communication into the firm to enhance positive growth and success. Different leadership style can be adopted by Starbucks (DuBrin, 2009). It will affect the organizational working environment as well as performance of the employees. The effect of leadership style on organizational communication in Starbucks can be discussed as follows:

Autocratic: Autocratic leadership style indicates the one way communication process into the organization. In this style, manager keeps whole authority or power of business related to decision making. Autocratic leadership style will affect the group communication in Starbuck's at wider level. The company believes in innovation and improvement in terms of quality that is not possible with the application of this form of leadership style. It will create a communication gap in the organization that further will affect the attainment of its long term goals (Hiebert & Klatt, 2001).

It will create a gap in communication between the managers and subordinates and subordinates and employees. In this way, it will affect organizational group communication. It will enhance stressful working environment due to one way communication pattern that will create rigidity among the employees (DuBrin, 2009).
