Our country ought to give a moment of pause and analyze the rising number of smokers per day as well as its anti-smoking laws which are invisible to the eyes of its citizens. An analysis performed by the Faculty of Medicine in Kuwait University, revealed results showing that there is a rising generation trend in cigarette smoking. In my opinion, smoking is a nasty habit with many detrimental consequences and due to its extremely addictive nature, it should be treated as an illegal drug for at least our young ones.

After conducting some research of my own, I found some seemingly interesting facts about smoking in Kuwait. For instance, as I walked down various streets here in Kuwait, I found that the most common type of litter left lying around were cigarettes, and if I had to count all the ones I've seen only in one avenue, the number would be shockingly enormous. Also after performing several surveys at my university, The American University of Kuwait, I concluded results showing that 90% of all smokers had at least a parent or a relative smoking when they were children. This represents that families are also involved in one's behavior towards smoking. Furthermore, I researched the web for information regarding the relationship between Kuwait's young society and smoking. One piece of information included that according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), "Of school students between the ages of 13 and 15, 28.8 percent have tried smoking at least once." With Kuwait's increasing population this percentage is considerably a large number of people and is yet to increase. Hence, an action should be taken before more and more people risk their lives through smoking addiction.

Now that I have addressed some of the current smoking issues in Kuwait, I would like to propose some ideas which maybe helpful to our community's future. First of all, I would like to target the main source behind people's attitudes towards smoking, and that would be their parents and families....
