Introduction

MAS Holdings : The holding company of MAS intimates, MAS holding is south Asia’s largest intimate apparel manufacturer and the regions most rapidly growing sportswear manufacturer, with an annual turn over of USD 700 million.

MAS’ founders have been ranked as being amongst the “Top 20 Asian Progressives” for their contributions in CSR (World Business - May 2007)

Social responsibility Audit for MAS Holdings.

Marks & Spencer & Victoria’s secret are the two main customers for MAS Holdngs, and their emphasis on CSR has been increasing in the recent past. The numbers of orders received by the plants depend on the acceptance of the CSR compliance audit. If the audit is unsatisfactory by at least one specified point the company will be disqualified for order placement, or orders will not be placed and the existing orders will be put on hold till the audit is passed and accepted.

Specific emphasis is paid on the working hours, working conditions, sanitation, minimum age limit of the employees and the facilities provided by the organization to the employees (specially to the machine operators and minor staff) and the benefits.

1. Establish Buy Ins

The importance of the audit need to be communicated to all levels in the organization. With the increasing demand from the customers for ethical practices in apparel manufacturing, the staff should be given an appropriate training and understanding of the importance of ethical practices, in order to get more business and for the acceptance of the organization within the customers, as an ethical vendor.
