Time Management- Improve Productivity and Reduce Stress
Even though distractions and additional work may interfere in meeting goals, time management can improve productivity and reduce stress. Researching the following practices can help in reducing anxiety and reclaiming one’s personal life. Keeping a schedule of daily activities, developing a to-do-list, utilizing software applications and maintaining a healthy lifestyle will assist in achieving goals. Effective time-management is a primary means to a less stressful life.
Managing a schedule of daily activities can minimize conflicts and last minute tasks. Planning the day can help accomplish tasks and feel more in control of one’s life. While researching the Mind Tools website it recommends that to consider goals and time availability before agreeing to take on additional work. “Scheduling is a five-step process: 1. identify the time you have available, 2. block in the essential tasks you must carry out to succeed in your job, 3. schedule in high priority urgent tasks and vital housekeeping activities, 4. block appropriate contingency time to handle unpredictable interruptions, 5. in the time remains, schedule the activities that address priorities and personal goals.” (Anonymous, 1995-2009, para. 9). Well organized scheduling can assist in bringing a workload under control, manage commitments and still leave time to do things that are most important to you.
At the beginning of each day make a to-do-list, listing the more important tasks at the top. Prioritizing tasks will ensure that one spend time and energy on those more important to accomplish. This will allow in meeting deadlines and monitoring time spent on projects. Be careful in multi-tasking as it can get overwhelming which can interfere in being productive.
