Abstract— Today’s semiconductor industry is being revolutionized! This revolution is not only about technology but also about how companies will need to do business. Staying competitive will require that companies change both their business and operations practices.

In this perspective semiconductor industries face both economical & technical challenges. And I am also interested to evaluate the future trends of this huge industry.

Keywords— Demands, market, challenges, opportunities, future.

I. Introduction

The semiconductor industry is the aggregate collection of companies engaged in the design and fabrication of semiconductor devices. The global semiconductor industry is dominated by USA, South Korea, Japan, and European Union. It formed around 1960, once the fabrication of semiconductors became a viable business. It has since grown to be the $249 billion dollar industry it is today.

II. Semiconductor Demand and market

Semiconductor demand is gradually expanding day by day. It has demand from high-end to low end market. Semiconductor penetrations in electronics, semiconductor content in systems are increasing sharply. So demands of semiconductor are everywhere where technology has reached. But like many other markets, the ongoing economic recession has had considerable impact on the semiconductor industry with sales declined steeply worldwide. The systemic financial crisis has significantly resulted into lack of liquidity in the market, reduced industrial productions and weak consumer confidence, leading to poor demand for electronic components and devices all over the world. According to our latest research report “Semiconductor Industry Forecast to 2012”, the global semiconductor sales are projected to report a steep decline of double-digit rate in 2009. However, as...
