Background of the Organization
Riordan Industries was founded by Dr. Riordan, a professor of chemistry. Dr. Riordan had achieved numerous patents in making polymers into high tensile strength plastic substrates. Riordan Industries, a Fortune 1000 enterprise subsidiary Riordan Manufacturing is currently the industry leader in global plastics manufacturing. It employs 550 people with estimated annual earnings of $46 million and revenues in excess of $1 billion.
Riordan’s research and development is done at the corporate headquarters in San Jose. Its’ plant in Albany, Georgia produce plastic beverage containers while the Pontiac, Michigan plant produces custom plastic parts and all its plastic fan parts are produced in Hangzhou, China facilities. The company’s major customers are beverage makers and bottlers, aircraft manufacturers, automotive parts manufacturers, appliance manufacturers and the Department of Defense.
The existing infrastructure and business processes run independently in each location requiring each operating entity to provide data that is then formatted and consolidated at the corporate headquarters in San Jose. The current business system is disjointed and needing various updates and upgrades designed to streamline data collection input, provide up-to-date inventory control system and process giving the ability to manage and decipher all data in centralize repository.
Finance and Accounting Systems
Currently each company location has its own finance and accounting systems which collects, analyzes and generate financial data for the company’s sales and revenue reports. The locations generate their reports manually by re-enter data and convert this data to formats that are compatible to the systems used at the corporate headquarters to process.
