Uncertain of what the future holds and surprised by the day’s events, Kia finds herself fearful and afraid while waiting to be interrogated by the detective. She has never been arrested before. A straight A grad student with a 4.0 grade average, she has never even been in trouble, not even with her parents so what could she have done that would have possibly landed her in this much trouble? The police station is crowded with criminals, drunks, and prostitutes. The scene causes Kia to be more afraid than before. Why is she here? What would her parents think? How would this incident change her life?

Just then Detective Michel came in with a manila folder that has a series of numbers on it; it read the Commonwealth of Pa vs. Kia Gordon. Her heart raced and she began to feel faint. Detective Michel told her that she was being charged with 1st degree murder in connection with the homicide of her fiancé Kyle, whom she planned to marry in less than a year. Kia was overwhelmed. She proclaimed her innocents, “I’ve never been in trouble, how could I kill someone yet someone that I love”? “Well, how do you explain the blood stains on your clothing and your DNA at the crime scene”, yelled Detective Michel. Utter silent filled the room, Kia began to weep then suddenly her parents arrived with an attorney to represent her. Kia ran across the room to meet her attorney and parents at the door, she was being charged with murder and feared that her life would be spent in jail. Her attorney advised the detective that he needed to speak to his client alone. Kia told her attorney that she had no recollection of what had taken place on the night of the fatal tragedy that took her fiancés life, so we’ll let justice decide.
