In the first chapter it talks about the writing process. First comes the prewriting where you have to analyze the assignment, establish a focus, read and respond to sources and finally you can use different prewriting strategies. In the drafting process you must first develop a thesis, then you must find a way to organize your thoughts and start writing. Then you go through the revising and proofreading phase. During the revising phase you must go through your paper and improve on it. When proofreading the paper you look out for spelling errors or any grammar errors. Then the final step is to submit the paper.

In chapter 15 it talks about what arguments are. When writing an argumentative paper you must be able to combine the truth with persuasion. Writing an argumentative essay in college is very different from writing in high school or any other class in college. Also when writing you have to think about your credibility.

In chapter 16 you decide what kind of audience you want to write too. The audience is very important. You also have to decide what kind of argument style you want to use. You have to be able to summarize the opposing views and refute opposing views.

In this reading the only thing that I found confusing was the argumentative part of an essay. I do not understand all the different aspects that are involved in writing argumentative essays. These chapters go along very well with what we are doing in class. The writing process has helped me so much with writing this first essay.
